Group texts

How text members join a Hytch group.

MobileFlow Inc. operates Hytch, a group coordination app. The Hytch application relays a group's messages by SMS to members who do not use the app ("text members") and posts their replies into the group. The Hytch application sends every message; members never text each other's numbers. Hytch never texts anyone who has not texted JOIN first.

  1. A group admin opens the group and chooses Add Members.

  2. They enter a number that is not on Hytch and choose Add by text.

    Hytch sends nothing to that number.

  3. The app hands the admin a ready-to-send invitation to send from their own phone.

    Join "Saturday Run Club" on Hytch by text: text JOIN 809296 to (615) 283-9659. You'll get the group's messages from that number and your replies go to the group. Msg & data rates may apply. Text STOP to that number to stop.

  4. The person shows as Invited until they opt in.

    The admin can send the invitation again.

  5. The person opts in by texting JOIN and the code.

    The code only works from the invited number and expires after 7 days. Hytch replies once with this confirmation.

  6. Group messages then arrive from the Hytch number.

    For example:

    Their replies appear in the group marked "via text".
